Alfredo Castelli b.1947

www.afnews.info segnala: Alfredo Castelli (born 26 June 1947, Italy) is a comics creator whose first strip was published in “Diabolik” when he was 16 years old.

With Paolo Sala, he created “Comics Club 104” in 1966, the first Italian comics fanzine. He began writing for comics themselves within a year.

He began working at Bonelli in 1978 and in 1982 created his best-known feature, “Martin Mystère”, drawn by Giancarlo Alessandrini (born 20 March 1950).

The series became both popular and influential, showing a space in the market for comics with sophisticated themes for adult readers, a market then dominated by comics for children and youth.

There have been spin-off series, an animated TV show re-imagining the characters, and multiple video and RPG card games based on the feature.

‘Mystère’ is now in the shared Bonelli universe along with characters such as ‘Zagor’, ‘Mister No’, and ‘Dylan Dog’. The meta-story that encompasses them all is the ‘Nathan Never’ story.
