Al BIAF si celebra l’animatissima carriera di John Musker

The 25th Bucheon International Animation Festival (BIAF2023) ha annunciato che il regista John Musker è il destinatario del suo annuale “Honorary Award“. Questa onoreficenza viene assegnata a un personaggio capace di raggiungere importanti risultati nello sviluppo del linguaggio Animazione oltre a lasciare un segno permanente con il proprio talento artistico.

Musker è un veterano del settore, con oltre  40 anni di onoratissima militanza nei Walt Disney Animation Studios dove, oltre che regista, è stato animatore, Storyboard Artist, sceneggiatore e produttore. Ha esordito come animatore su “Red & Toby Nemiciamici” (1981), per poi passare alla regia con il lungometraggio “Basil l’investigatopo” (1986) insieme a , insieme a Ron Clements, e alla ‘Leggenda Disney‘ Burny Mattinson, che a sua volta fu ospiete di BIAF nel 2017, prima della scomparsa  all’inizio del 2023. Con Ron Clements, John Musker ha poi collaborato anche per scrivere e dirigere “La Sirenetta” (1989), consolidandosi ulteriormente in diverse pellicole successive, tra cui “Aladdin” (1992), “Hercules” (1997), “Il pianeta del tesoro” (2002), “La principessa e il ranocchio” (2009) e “Oceania” (2016).

Di recente, Musker ha presentato il suo ultimo cortometraggio “l’m Hip“ (2023), realizzato in tecnica 2D ‘disegnata a mano’, che sarà presente in concorso a BIAF2023. Il premio verrà consegnato in occasione della cerimonia di apertura del festival, che si terrà dal 20 al 24 ottobre a Bucheon, in Corea del Sud (www.biaf.or.kr).

The 25th  Bucheon  lnternational  Animation  Festival (BIAF2023)  has  announced  director  John  Musker as the recipient of the ‘Honorary Award ‘. This award is given to a person who has achieved in the development  of  the  animation  genre  and  the  establishment  of  artistry. John Musker is a 40-year veteran of Walt Disney Animation Studios, where he was an  animator, storyboard artist writer, director, and prod ucer. He became an animator on The  Fox  and  the  Hound (1981) and later joined Ron Clements to direct The Great Mouse Detective  (1986)  alongside  Disney Legend Burny Mattinson, who visited BIAF2017 and passed away in 2023. With Ron  Clements, John Musker  teamed  up  to  write  and  direct  The  Little  Mermaid  (1989).  The John and Ron duo also wrote and directed severa! subsequent animated features, including Aladdin (1992), Hercules (1997), Treasure Planet (2002), The Princess and the  Frog (2009), and Moana  (2016). John Musker has completed his own hand-drawn short l‘m Hip (2023), selected for the short competition at BIAF2023. BIAF2023, which holds the honorary  award presentation at the opening  ceremony, will be held for fìve days from October 20 to 24 in Bucheon, South Korea (www.biaf.or.kr).
